About The Department

The Department of Microbiology at JSS Women’s College, Saraswathipuram, Mysore was established in the year 1998, with BBM (Biochemistry, Botany and Microbiology) combinations. Enthused with a steady response from the students, BMBT (Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Biotechnology) was introduced as one of its combinations in the year 2003. These courses have continued to inspire generations of students and have enabled them to pursue a rewarding career in microbiology and to become some of the most distinguished alumni of the department.

There is a steadfast dedication by the staff to empower students with the knowledge and skills required to address the diverse and evolving challenges in the field of microbiology. With a strong focus on health, environment, agriculture, and bioindustries, the department aims to prepare graduates who are equipped to recognize, investigate, resolve, and manage microbiological issues that impact society and industries.

With a deep resolve for providing value-based education, a career-oriented program (COP) was introduced in 2016 in Clinical Lab Techniques which entitles students to get hands-on experience in the basics and advanced techniques used in modern clinical labs.

The Department of Microbiology is committed to developing the next generation of microbiologists who will play a key role in addressing the global challenges of today and tomorrow.
