About National Service Scheme (NSS)
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a flagship youth development programme of the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India. Launched on 24 September 1969, NSS aims to develop the personality and character of students through voluntary community service. Guided by the motto "Not Me But You", the programme encourages students to participate in activities that promote social responsibility, leadership, discipline, environmental awareness, and national integration. Through regular activities and special camps, NSS volunteers contribute to community development while gaining valuable life skills and a spirit of selfless service.
Motto
"NOT ME BUT YOU"
The motto "Not Me But You" reflects the spirit of selfless service, social responsibility, and concern for the welfare of others. It inspires NSS volunteers to work for the betterment of society while developing leadership, discipline, teamwork, and compassion. The motto emphasizes placing the needs of the community before personal interests, fostering a sense of unity, empathy, and commitment towards nation-building through voluntary service.
Things which are considered in NSS service include:
- To make involvement of the students in social services.
